YCGI is a legacy organization of Search for Common Ground, a global peacebuilding organization founded in 1982 and now active in more than 35 countries. Our journey in Indonesia began in 2002, driven by the urgent need to reduce violence and foster harmony in one of the world’s most diverse nations.
From the start, we become part of Search Indonesia’s efforts to build peace and prevent violent conflict. Through collaborative projects, leadership training, and tech-driven programs, we promote tolerance and mutual understanding. Working hand in hand with civil society, interfaith groups, government institutions, and law enforcement officers, we help restore social trust and solidarity among communities of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Years of Experience in Indonesia
In 2009, our work expanded into a pioneering collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, now the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, specifically the Directorate General of Corrections (DGC). We developed innovative approaches to address violent extremism inside prisons and to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of former violent extremism inmates back into society. This experience strengthened our belief that peace requires both institutional reform and community resilience.
